Three years ago today on May 16, 2020, a massive explosion and fire on Boyd Street in Downtown Los Angeles led to a Major Emergency with more than 230 Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighters on scene. A MAYDAY call was made when 11 Firefighters were trapped and burned. An additional firefighter was also injured on scene. Thankfully, these Firefighters from FS 9 in Skid Row were all rescued and admitted to the hospital for their injuries, with the last LAFD member being released after 65 days in the intensive burn unit.

The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City Fire Foundation (UFLACFF) Grant and Scholarship Program provides educational assistance to fire service members and their immediate families.
The UFLACFF will be awarding the following grants and scholarships twice in year 2023:
Two – $2,000 grants/scholarship
Four – $1,000 grants/scholarships
Four – $500 grants/scholarships
DEADLINE TO APPLY IS JUNE 1, 2023.
