UFLAC & LAFD Join Forces to Support
Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October

UFLAC and the LAFD have joined forces to promote and support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our primary goal is to support those personally affected by cancer and to reach thousands of people with the lifesaving message that cancer prevention and early detection can mean the difference between life and death.

During the month of October, all members are authorized to wear the newly designed pink LAFD shirt while on duty to support Breast Cancer Awareness. By this very public display, LAFD Firefighters and Paramedics can help to raise public awareness of this devastating disease. We hope as many of you as possible will wear the pink T-shirt.

Breast Cancer Facts to Consider:

Breast Cancer incidents in LA County are three times higher that that of the next leading cancer
Second leading cause of mortality among Caucasian, African American, and Asian/Pacific Islander females
Leading cause of mortality among Latina / Hispanic women in LA County
Late diagnosis carries a survival rate of less than 7%
Early diagnosis and treatment has a survival rate of over 91%
#1 mortality rate of females between 21-40 years of age in LA County

Thank you #HomeForHeros for your kind donation to UFLAC Fire Foundation supporting our burned #LAFD Firefighters.

The world saw the massive fire on Saturday night in Downtown Los Angeles where it took 230 LAFD Firefighters to extinguish a huge commercial fire and explosion in less than two hours.
Fortunately, it appears that all of our Firefighters will survive this fire.

Unfortunately, nine of our LAFD Firefighters are still in the hospital, some in critical condition, as they all face a a long and grueling road ahead filled with multiple surgeries, recovery at the Grossman Burn Center, and lifelong injuries - some of which may prevent them from returning to the profession that they love, caring for the people of Los Angeles.
In 2019 the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) started a 501C3 charitable foundation with ZERO overhead, so that every dollar collected goes directly to our LAFD Firefighters and their families in need.
For those who feel inclined to support these Firefighters- all of whom worked at Fire Station 9 in Skid Row in some of the toughest conditions imaginable for any Firefighter in America - please take a moment to click on the link below to make a contribution that will go directly to these Firefighters and their families.
Whether it goes to pay for their out of town families to be near them at the Hospital and Burn Center, or helps to fund college for the children of those Firefighters who are no longer able to work again, EVERY DIME will go towards these brave first responders who nearly gave their lives on Saturday night to protect Los Angeles.

We know that times are hard for everyone right now, so anything you can do is appreciated and no amount is too small. Firefighters look out for us everyday. Now it’s time to give back and look out for them.
